The Department was established during the academic year 2009 as part of B.Tech/MBA/MCA/M.Tech programme. Since its inception, it has been focusing on teaching engineering students skills in mathematics as they are applied in engineering. Research is the major strength of the department with a sharp focus on thrust areas such as Bio-Mechanics, Fluid Dynamics, Mathematical Modeling, Operations Research and Algebra. The faculty members are actively involved in research and have published more than 270 international research papers and 15 national research papers during the last seven years with maximum impact factor 2.629 and minimum impact factor 0.1.​
